Hyperpigmentation, which can be caused by factors like hormonal imbalances, aging, sun damage, and pregnancy, is a common skin issue. While superficial pigmentation can often be treated with medical peels or lasers, deeper pigmentation, such as melasma (often referred to as the "mask of pregnancy"), is more challenging. For this, the Cosmelan treatment stands out as one of the most effective solutions.
Cosmelan is designed to address deep-set pigmentation problems and is suitable for all skin types. The treatment combines a professional in-clinic application with a follow-up home care regimen. Its formulation includes key ingredients like Amalan, which targets and inhibits the enzyme tyrosinase responsible for pigment production. Additionally, Cosmelan products contain ascorbic acid (vitamin C), phytic acid, and retinyl palmitate (a vitamin A derivative), all of which work to lighten pigmentation and improve skin clarity.
Cosmelan and Dermamelan are both effective treatments for deep-seated pigmentation issues. Cosmelan is used for more superficial to moderate pigmentation, such as age spots and lighter melasma, and is suitable for all skin types. Dermamelan is a stronger, more intensive treatment, designed for very deep, long-standing pigmentation. It is 30% more potent than Cosmelan and is specifically administered by skin therapists and doctors. During a consultation, the therapist will determine which treatment is best suited to your specific pigmentation concerns.
Both the Cosmelan and Dermamelan involve a combination of in-clinic procedures and at-home care over a period of 3-6 months.
Step 1:
Before starting the Cosmelan or Dermamelan treatment, a preparatory peel is performed in the clinic to prepare the skin.
Step 2:
7-10 days after the initial peel, you will return to the clinic for the application of Cosmelan/Dermamelan 1, a mask that remains on the skin for 8-12 hours, depending on your skin condition. You will then remove the mask at home and continue with the prescribed at-home products.
Step 3:
After 48 hours, you will have a follow-up appointment where you’ll receive instructions on the next steps and how to use the at-home products. You will use these products for 3-6 months and attend monthly check-ups to monitor your skin’s progress and results.
In the first 10 days after the Cosmelan/Dermamelan mask, your skin might become red and swollen, and you could experience itching if your skin is very sensitive. It's normal to feel a burning or tight sensation. Peeling and dryness are common, with the most noticeable peeling occurring in the first month. As you continue using the prescribed products, the peeling will gradually lessen.
Visible results generally appear towards the end of the treatment course. Initial improvements, such as lighter skin from peeling, are seen sooner. However, deeper pigment takes longer to address, so patience is key. Keep in mind that while this treatment significantly improves pigmentation, it is not a permanent fix. Regular maintenance treatments and consistent use of recommended products are essential for sustaining results.
During your consultation, you'll meet with a skin therapist to discuss your goals, explore treatment options, and create a personalized plan based on your specific needs.
Before starting your treatment, you'll review a health declaration form and treatment agreement. We'll document your progress with photos and discuss your personalized treatment plan, ensuring you're fully informed about what to expect.
Once your treatment plan is finalized, our experienced skin therapist will perform advanced techniques using high-quality products. We ensure a comfortable experience, provide aftercare instructions, and schedule follow-up appointments to support your journey to healthier, radiant skin.
